951 Gaspara, an S-type asteroid, was the first asteroid to be closely approached and photographed when the Galileo spacecraft flew by on its way to Jupiter.

The piece stems from an enduring romanticism humanity and myself have had with the cosmos.  I'm fascinated by the  constant reevaluation of our place in the universe, measured and graphed by ingenious devices flung off into the dark hellish void of space. Gaspara is a potent symbol of both the beginning and potential end of humanities long march toward understanding its place in the universe.
